What Is A Domestic Cat?

The cat or Felis Catus also known as the house cat or domestic cat to distinguish from other felines is small, usually fluffy and is a carnivorous mammal. The cat is valued by humans as a companion and for it's use in hunting vermin such as mice and rats. Humans and cats have been linked in history for almost 10,000 years and are the most popular pet in the World.

The cat's anatomy is identical to it's larger family members, strong with flexible bodies, quick reflexes, sharp retractable claws and sharp canines used for killing prey. Cats are crepuscular (twilight) hunters and their acute hearing and their ability to see in almost total darkness helps them track down prey. Despite their larger family members being solitary, domestic cats are quite sociable and use vocalisation, scent and body language to communicate to other species.
