The Cat Family

Wild Cats are distributed widely around the World excluding Australia. They tend to be solitary living animals except lions and are predatory by nature. They hunt a range of prey from large grazing animals to rodents and insects. Many species have been hunted to near extinction for their fur and medicinal properties. Most species have camouflage to suit their habitat, this along with their silent movements makes them an efficient killing machine. The domestic cat is thought to have descended from species of Wild Cat i.e. African Wild Cat, one example is the markings of Tabby cats which are common in Wild Cat species.
